Diabetes UK
Diabetes UK was setup originally in 1934 as the Diabetic Association by novelist HG Wells and Dr RD Lawrence, both of whom had diabetes. It aimed to ensure everyone in the UK has access to insulin, no matter what their financial situation was. The association campaigned for the creation of the National Health Service and encouraged people to take a role in managing their own condition.
Diabetes UK is the leading charity for those living with diabetes. They provide information, advice and support to those living with diabetes and their loved ones. The charity are also involved in campaigning, influencing governments and health services to ensure people with diabetes get the correct level of care. Diabetes UK is the UK’s largest charitable funder of diabetic research and our team are continuously searching for breakthroughs to improve treatment and prevention. The charity is comprised of passionate staff and over 7,000 volunteers who raise awareness and funds to make this work possible.
