This course is open to HCPC / CORU registered podiatrists ONLY. Maximum 10 delegates.
This innovative course is held in the superb facilities of University Hospitals Nottingham cadaver and anatomy learning centre. Using fresh cadaver specimens, it covers the practical techniques of injecting steroids, viscosupplements or prolotherapy agents into the knee, ankle and foot, both peri – and intra – articular. In addition delegates will be able to practice the fan tunnelling technique required with Dermal Filler of the foot procedures. Pharamcology will be provided and must be completed as pre-course reading.
Delegates will work in pairs, under the close supervision of a highly-experienced podiatrist injector, administering injections to all of the parts mentioned. The delegates are shown how to find entry sites by traditional landmark techniques, as well as by ultrasound imaging (injection guided procedures) for those who are already familiar with ultrasound imaging or considering introducing it in their practice. Both techniques can stand alone or can be used concurrently or consecutively.
The delegates will rotate around cadaver station under the course tutors close direction, practicing sequentially on each cadaver specimen. Each delegate will be able to perform ten injections on the cadaver models to allow the acquisition of comfortable familiarity with the techniques.
Tutor
Martin is a Consultant Podiatrist, he has two clinics in Birmingham, one at hospital dealing with NHS secondary care referrals and a private consulting clinic . When extended medicines use became possible in podiatry, he qualified as one of the very early supplementary prescribers and subsequently worked on the Department of Health independent prescribing project a few years later which successfully developed independent prescribing for Podiatrists and Physiotherapists, as well as the NICE single prescribing framework project. He is passionate about maximising medicines access and use in podiatry. A special interest for a number of years has been injection therapies which he firmly maintains are grossly underused in both NHS and independent general practice podiatry. As director of education for the Institute of Podiatrists he uses the opportunity of that platform to share his passions about the foregoing.
This course is accredited by The Institute of Podiatrists. On completion of this course delegates will have confident knowledge in Steroid, Dermal Filler, Viscosupplement and prolotherapy injections, with and without ultrasound guidance.
Lunch and refreshments are provided.
